Random Maths Problem

On the weekend I heard an amazing fact,

The largest game of tiggy was played by ______ people in Toyama, Japan, on July 5, 2011.

Clues:
- It is a 4 digit number.
- The digit in the tens place is the product of 2 X 3.
- The digit in the ones place is the same as the digit in the tens place
- The digit in the hundreds place is 35 divided by 7.
- The digit in the thousands place is equal to the digit in the tens place minus the digit in the hundreds place.

Imagine if we had a whole school game of tiggy! Comment on this post with the answer… parents you are allowed to help.

Harmony Day 2012

Today the students from both Holy Trinity and St Francis Xavier participated in a well organised day. In 2012, the Australian Harmony Day theme was Sport. It inspires us to recognise the important role and positive influence that sport has in our multicultural nation.

Our two Schools focused more on the “Positive Infulence” and our parish moto for this year, “Throw open the doors and let in the light”.

Atttched to this post is a Wordle created on the day showing the themes that were presented.

A fantastic day enjoyed by both students and teachers alike.

What was your favourite part of this amazing day?

A New School Year

Sovereign Hill Camp

Last week the Year Five students went to Sovereign Hill in Ballarat for a two night camp.

The students have been learning about the important historical events of the Gold Rush and the way these events have shaped Australia’s political and social identity. Visiting Sovereign Hill gave the students and opportunity to learn new things and make connections to what they have already learnt at school.

While we were at Sovereign Hill the students were asked to collect digital evidence on a theme. The theme words included housing, mining, business, women, Chinese and fashion. The students used digital cameras to take photos and record video of their theme. The students are now using this evidence to present reports.

As you can see from our photos we learnt a lot while visiting Sovereign Hill and most importantly we had fun!

Multicultural Day 2011

Each year our wonderful LOTE teacher organises Multicultural day. Last year we celebrated by learning about and experiencing various Asian cultures. This year we celebrated Italian Day! Signora Bonfante organised art activities, bocce and soccer clinics and a number of performers to play Italian music and act. All of the children wore Italian colours or dressed up as Italian characters including a number of Pizza chefs, the Mario Brothers, Pinnochio, Strega Nonna I even saw Donatella Versace in year one.

Leave a comment to tell us what your favourite part of Italian Day was and why! Maybe you have a suggestion for next year’s Multicultural Day?

Stand Up Day October 17th 2011

Yesterday we stopped to acknowledge Stand Up Day. As a school we celebrated a liturgy to recognise the actions we can take to support the fight against poverty. We all read the pledge together. Our Grade Six RE Leaders did a wonderful job leading the liturgy and then we gathered for a photo in our court yard.

Our School Concert

At the end of term three we had our school concert. It was performed over two nights by cast one and two. Both nights were absolutely magical and we were all so proud of our students!  Over the holidays I have had a chance to watch the concert DVD and can not believe how talented the students at HT are!  I have used Kizoa to make a slideshow of some of our photos.
